Privacy Policy
Effective date: March 5, 2026
Our Philosophy: Privacy First
OpenSlug was built around a single guiding principle — your writing is private, and it stays that way. Everything you create stays on your device. We have no servers storing your scripts. We collect no personal data. We don't track you. There is nothing to sell because we have nothing.
1. Information We Collect
We collect nothing. OpenSlug does not collect, transmit, or store any personal information, usage data, analytics, crash reports, or content of any kind on any server. There are no accounts, no sign-ups, and no profiles.
2. Local-Only Storage
All data created within OpenSlug — your scripts, formatting preferences, settings, and any other content — is stored exclusively on your device using your browser's IndexedDB and local storage APIs. This data never leaves your device and is never transmitted over any network.
Because there are no servers or accounts, there is no cloud sync, no cross-device sharing, and no remote backup. What's on your device stays on your device.
3. No Tracking or Analytics
OpenSlug does not use any analytics services, tracking pixels, fingerprinting, advertising networks, or third-party data collection tools. We have no visibility into how you use the App, what you write, or when you use it.
4. No Third-Party Data Sharing
We do not share, sell, rent, or otherwise disclose your data to any third party — because we don't have your data in the first place.
5. You Control Your Data
You have complete control over everything stored by OpenSlug. You can export your scripts at any time using the built-in export features. You can delete your data by clearing the App's local storage through your browser or device settings.
Because there is no account or server, there is no data to request, correct, or delete from our end — there simply isn't any.
6. Data Deletion Risks
Because your data is stored locally and only locally, certain actions will permanently and irreversibly delete it. We cannot recover your data once it is gone. You are solely responsible for backing up your work.
Situations that will permanently delete your data include:
- Uninstalling OpenSlug from a mobile device — removing a Progressive Web App (PWA) from iOS or Android erases all locally stored IndexedDB data associated with it. This is permanent.
- Clearing browser or site data — using your browser's “Clear data,” “Clear cookies and site data,” or equivalent setting will wipe all IndexedDB and local storage data for OpenSlug.
- Clearing app storage on mobile — clearing storage for the installed PWA through your device's app settings will delete all data.
- Device loss, damage, reset, or factory restore — any event that erases your device's local storage will destroy your data.
- Extended browser storage pressure — on some mobile browsers, the operating system may evict IndexedDB data when storage is critically low, though this is uncommon.
Regularly export your scripts using the built-in export feature and save them to a safe location (local machine, external drive, email, etc.). Treat OpenSlug's local storage the same way you'd treat unsaved work in any other application — back it up.
7. Children's Privacy
OpenSlug is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children. Since we collect no information from anyone, no special measures beyond those above are needed.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Effective date” at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the App following any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
